Signifyd holds 4.4 stars from 90 reviews on the Shopify App Store and is a guarantee product. A genuinely different product: you are buying certainty, not dispute help. For high-AOV merchants the financial guarantee can be worth more than any win rate. Aurai covers both prevention and representment on a single 25%-of-wins fee, with no monthly cost and nothing owed on a loss — but no review history yet. Aurai has no guarantee, but it covers every reason code rather than the fraud subset.

What is a chargeback, and why automate the response?

A chargeback is a customer disputing a card payment with their bank rather than asking you for a refund. The money is pulled back immediately, a fee is charged whether or not you contest, and the dispute counts against the ratio the card networks monitor. You then have a fixed window — often 7 to 21 days — to submit evidence.

Doing that by hand works below roughly five disputes a month. Past that, deadlines slip, and a missed deadline is an automatic loss. Tools in this category automate one or both halves of the problem: stopping disputes before they file, and answering the ones that do. Signifyd is a guarantee product; Aurai does both. That distinction matters more than any feature list — a lost dispute costs roughly 2.5× the order value once goods and staff time are counted.

Pricing

Signifyd: Free to install · percentage of protected order value. That is what the listing states as of September 9, 2026.

Aurai: free to install, then 25% of each dispute it recovers. No monthly fee, no setup fee, nothing owed when a dispute is lost. Prevention is included rather than billed separately or per alert.

The models are not directly comparable across categories. A per-alert fee scales with your dispute volume whether or not the alert would have become a chargeback; a success fee only costs you after money has come back. Work it out with your own numbers in the cost calculator.

Automation & setup

Signifyd decisions orders at checkout in real time and reimburses approved orders that turn out fraudulent. That is a different kind of automation from dispute handling — it acts before the sale rather than after the dispute. Aurai screens orders too, then fights the disputes Signifyd's guarantee does not cover.

Aurai takes an agent-first approach — one autonomous agent detects the dispute, gathers evidence, writes a reason-code-specific rebuttal, and submits it, typically in about 90 seconds per dispute. Setup is an OAuth connection to your processor and takes roughly two minutes, with nothing to install on your storefront and no code change.

Integrations

Signifyd lists: Carthook, PayPal, Recharge, Shop Pay, Stripe, Early Fraud Warnings. It carries Shopify's Built for Shopify badge.

Aurai connects to Stripe, PayPal and Shopify Payments. It does not carry the Built for Shopify badge yet. If your volume runs through a processor outside those three, that is a reason to prefer Signifyd.

Fraud prevention

Signifyd screens orders at checkout and reimburses fraud losses on approved orders — prevention plus insurance, for the fraud subset. Non-fraud disputes remain yours to handle.

Aurai screens every order on AVS, CVV, 3DS, IP-versus-billing and velocity signals, and responds to pre-dispute alerts automatically at no extra cost. Whether prevention or recovery is your urgent problem depends on how close you are to the network thresholds — Visa VDMP at 0.9%, Mastercard ECM at 1.5%.

Key differences explained

A guarantee is not representment

Signifyd reimburses you for fraud on approved orders. Aurai recovers money by winning disputes. One is insurance, the other is recovery, and a merchant can reasonably want both.

Coverage of non-fraud codes

Item not received, not as described and cancelled subscriptions are the majority of dispute volume and sit outside a fraud guarantee. Aurai covers every reason code.

Cost shape

A percentage of protected order value is paid on orders that were always going to be fine. A success fee is only paid after money has been recovered.

Who it genuinely suits

High-AOV merchants often value certainty over win rate. For them Signifyd is the stronger choice, and this page says so rather than pretending otherwise.

Pros & cons

Aurai

Covers every reason code, not the fraud subset the guarantee applies to
Non-fraud disputes — not received, not as described, cancelled subscriptions — are the majority of volume and fall outside a guarantee
No percentage of protected order value; you pay only on recovered disputes
No App Store review history yet — every competitor here has between 9 and 416
Stripe, PayPal and Shopify only — no Braintree, authorize.net or BNPL rails

Signifyd

A financial guarantee, not a best-effort service — approved orders that turn out fraudulent are reimbursed
Decisioning at checkout can approve good orders others decline, lifting revenue
Enterprise-grade, long-established vendor
The guarantee covers fraud chargebacks only — non-fraud codes are yours
A percentage of protected order value is payable on every order, not per win
Enterprise onboarding is heavier than a two-minute OAuth connection

Which should you choose?

Choose Aurai if…

  • Non-fraud disputes are most of your volume
  • You would rather pay on recovery than on protected orders
  • You want a two-minute setup
  • You want every reason code covered

Choose Signifyd if…

  • You have high average order value
  • Certainty on fraud losses beats win rate for you
  • You want checkout decisioning to approve more good orders
  • You are comfortable with enterprise onboarding

The bottom line

Signifyd sells certainty: approved orders that turn out fraudulent are reimbursed. That is genuinely valuable at high AOV, and Aurai offers nothing like it. But the guarantee covers fraud only, and item-not-received and not-as-described are the majority of dispute volume — those stay yours to fight.
