Best chargeback apps for Shopify

Five apps, three different products. Most comparisons blur that — but an alerts app and a representment app do not do the same job, and buying the wrong category is the most common expensive mistake here. Ratings below are from the Shopify App Store, read September 7, 2026.

Updated: September 2026

Decide the category before the app. Prevention buys pre-dispute alerts so you can refund before a chargeback files. Representment fights the disputes that file. Guarantee reimburses you for fraud on approved orders. They solve different problems and a store with a high dispute rate often needs two of them.

App by app

Chargeflow4.6 (416 reviews)

The most-reviewed option by a wide margin, and the closest like-for-like to Aurai — automated representment plus prevention on a success-fee model with no monthly cost.

Where it falls short: The largest install base here, which cuts both ways: more proven, but also the default answer, so support attention is spread across far more merchants.

Chargeback.io4.9 (116 reviews)

The highest-rated app in the category, and the strongest pure-prevention option. Deflecting a dispute inside the alert window avoids the fee and the dispute-ratio hit entirely.

Where it falls short: Prevention only — it does not fight disputes that file anyway. Per-alert pricing scales with your dispute volume, and you still absorb the refund on every alert you action.

Disputifier4.6 (116 reviews)

Well-established with a large review base, and more control over response wording than fully hands-off tools give you.

Where it falls short: Template-driven responses adapt less to reason-code specifics than evidence assembled per dispute — which matters most on non-fraud codes where the winning argument differs case by case.

Chargeblast4.6 (45 reviews)

Explicitly built around the dispute-ratio problem. For a merchant approaching the VDMP 0.9% or ECM 1.5% threshold, keeping disputes off the count is worth more than winning them.

Where it falls short: Prevention-focused, so disputes that do file still need a separate answer.

Signifyd4.4 (90 reviews)

A genuinely different product: you are buying certainty, not dispute help. For high-AOV merchants the financial guarantee can be worth more than any win rate.

Where it falls short: The guarantee covers fraud chargebacks on approved orders. Non-fraud codes — not received, not as described, cancelled subscriptions — sit outside it and remain yours to fight.

Reclaim5.0 (18 reviews)

The closest model to Aurai's — success-based pricing and automated evidence from real order signals. A perfect rating, though on a smaller review base.

Where it falls short: Representment-focused, so preventable disputes still reach the filing stage where they cost a fee and a ratio point.

Disputely4.0 (17 reviews)

Pay-per-prevention is a fairer alert model than pay-per-alert: you are not billed for notifications that were never going to become chargebacks.

Where it falls short: Alerts only. It also carries the lowest rating of the apps on this page, on a small review base.

Chargeback Specialist5.0 (16 reviews)

People rather than software. For unusual or high-value disputes, a specialist who can reason about an edge case is worth more than any automation.

Where it falls short: A monthly subscription is payable whether or not anything is recovered, and human review does not scale to peak-season dispute volume the way automation does.

Chargeback Blacklist5.0 (9 reviews)

Directly targets serial abusers, and a blocklist is the cheapest possible defence against a customer who has already disputed once.

Where it falls short: It only stops customers you have already been burned by. First-time fraud, friendly fraud and every non-fraud dispute pass straight through.

ChargePay4.7 (26 reviews)

Built for Shopify badge, and a success-fee model at a lower headline rate than most — around 20% of won disputes.

Where it falls short: Recovery-focused, so preventable disputes still reach the filing stage where they cost a fee and a ratio point.

Auraino rating yet

Reads each dispute, builds reason-code-specific evidence including carrier proof-of-delivery, and submits before the deadline. Prevention is bundled at no cost rather than priced per alert. You pay only on wins.

Where it falls short: Newest app here, with no review history yet — the others range from 9 to 416 reviews. If an established App Store track record matters to you, that is a real point against it today.

How to choose

Three questions, in order:

  1. Are disputes already filing? If yes, you need representment — the money is recoverable and going uncontested. Prevention alone cannot help with a dispute that already exists.
  2. How close is your dispute rate to the threshold?Visa's VDMP line is 0.9%, Mastercard's ECM 1.5%. Near either one, prevention stops being a cost saving and becomes insurance on your ability to process cards at all — see rate thresholds.
  3. What is a dispute actually costing you? Fee plus refund is the visible part; the full cost is roughly 2.5× the order value. That number decides whether any of these apps pays for itself.

What about Shopify Protect?

Shopify Protect is free and worth having, but it is narrower than most merchants assume: eligible Shop Pay orders only, meeting several conditions simultaneously, and fraud-type disputes only. Item not received, not as described and cancelled subscriptions — the majority of dispute volume — fall outside it. Full eligibility detail in Shopify Protect vs representment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best chargeback app for Shopify?

It depends on which problem you have. If disputes are already filing and you want them fought automatically, a representment app (Chargeflow, Disputifier, Aurai) is the category. If you want to stop them filing at all, a prevention/alerts app (Chargeback.io) is. If you want a financial guarantee against fraud losses, that is Signifyd. By App Store rating as of September 2026, Chargeback.io leads at 4.9 with 116 reviews; Chargeflow has the largest base at 4.6 with 416.

Do chargeback apps for Shopify charge a monthly fee?

All five apps here are free to install. The charging model differs: representment apps typically take a success fee on disputes they win, alert apps charge per alert received, and guarantee providers take a percentage of protected order value. Check which model a vendor uses before installing, because per-alert and per-order pricing scale with volume while success fees only cost you when you have recovered money.

Does Shopify Protect mean I do not need a chargeback app?

No. Shopify Protect only covers eligible Shop Pay orders meeting several conditions at once, and only fraud-type disputes. Non-fraud codes — item not received, not as described, cancelled subscriptions — are the majority of dispute volume and are not covered. Most stores find Protect handles a minority of their exposure.

Can I use a prevention app and a representment app together?

Yes, and the combination is coherent: alerts deflect what they can catch inside the refund window, and representment fights what files anyway. The cost question is whether per-alert fees plus refunds beat contesting the same disputes — which depends on your win rate and how close you are to the network dispute-rate thresholds.
